Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet enters service with American Eagle
Toronto, February 08, 2002
American Eagle has launched scheduled passenger service with the first of 25 Bombardier CRJ700™ jetliners on firm order from Bombardier Aerospace.
Bombardier CRJ700 passenger service officially commenced from the airline's Dallas/Fort Worth Airport hub on January 31, 2002.
The largest regional airline in the world, American Eagle was the North American launch customer for the 70-seat aircraft when the order was announced at the Paris Air Show on June 17, 1997.
Since the first delivery of the first new generation 70-seater on Jan. 31, 2001, Bombardier has delivered CRJ700 jetliners to six airlines in Europe and the United Sates.
In the United States, three airlines have taken delivery of the Bombardier CRJ700 - Horizon Air of Seattle, Washington, Delta Connection, Inc./ASA of Atlanta, Georgia, and American Eagle of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.
In Europe, the Bombardier CRJ700 is in scheduled passenger service with Brit Air of Morlaix, France, Lufthansa CityLine of Cologne, Germany, and Maersk Air Limited of Birmingham, England. Brit Air is a wholly owned subsidiary of Air France. Maersk Air Limited is an independent carrier affiliated with British Airways.
A total of 10 airlines and leasing companies have placed firm orders for 195 Bombardier CRJ700 aircraft.
A 70-seat derivative of the 50-seat Bombardier CRJ200™, the CRJ700 was officially launched Jan. 21, 1997 to meet the demand for larger aircraft with superior operating economies on regional airline jet routes. Official roll-out of the aircraft occurred May 28, 1999, one day after the first flight.
Bombardier's family of regional jets includes the 44-seat Bombardier CRJ440™, 50-seat CRJ200, 70-seat CRJ700 and 86-seat CRJ900™, the latter of which is scheduled to enter airline service in the first quarter of 2003. In addition to their low operating costs, Bombardier CRJ aircraft offer commonality in crewing, maintenance, spare parts and customer support.
The most successful regional aircraft program in history, the Bombardier CRJ family has amassed 1,177 firm orders.
